As of February 17, 2025, the six cascade reservoirs of Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges and Gezhouba on the stem stream of the Yangtze River have replenished 10 billion cubic meters of water during this dry season, equivalent to the?water volume of 80 Donghu?Lakes in Wuhan. This has fully met water demands for?people’s?daily?life?and production?in?the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and effectively ensured the smooth navigation of the Golden Waterway.
From November to April of the following year, the inflow of water from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and its tributaries decreases significantly. As an important strategic water?resource??reservoir in China, the cascade reservoir system represented by the Three Gorges Reservoir makes full use of the clear water?it stored already to replenish water for the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Water replenishment for this round of dry season was officially launched on December 1, 2024. Under the guidance and support of Changjiang Water Resources Commission, State Grid,?and China Southern Power Grid, CYPC scientifically optimized the operation mode of power stations?and carried out meticulous joint operation. Since January 2025, the average outflow of the Three Gorges Reservoir has reached 7,490 cubic meters per second, which was 890 cubic meters per second higher than the inflow, effectively alleviating the situation?of low water levels in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the dry season.
In the future, CYPC will continue to do a good job in forecasting?of water and rainfall regimes, strengthen communication and consultation with supervisory departments, and?continue to carry out water replenishment during the dry season, so as to give full play to the role of cascade reservoirs as the "water source" of downstream basin?and ensure that the Yangtze River flows eastward with clear water that nourish all things in the area it reaches.
